The first collection of scientific articles "Problems of law and law enforcement" was published in 1997. It was not included in the list of special publications on legal sciences. It included articles on problems of law and law enforcement, relevant to Donetsk region. It covered issues of methodology of teaching general and special disciplines in higher educational institutions of the MIA of Ukraine.

In 1999, the status of the periodical "Problems of law and law enforcement" was changed from a collection of scientific articles to a collection of scientific works. Since 1999 the collection has been in the list of professional publications on issues of law and law enforcement. The updated edition covered the issues of development of branches of law and law enforcement. For the first time an attempt was made to create a separate area of study in sociology, the history of law enforcement and management in the field of law.

In 2004, the collection of scientific works "Problems of law and law enforcement" underwent a new state registration. The collection considered theoretical and historical aspects of state and law, topical issues of the fight against crime.
In 2009, the collection of scientific works "Problems of law and law enforcement" underwent a new state registration due to the change of structure of founders, the language of the edition and format of the collection (Certificate of state registration No. 3573, series DC, September 3, 2009). The book deals with general theoretical and historical aspects of state and law, highlights the problems of combating crime, actual issues of constitutional and other branches of law.
In 2016 the collection of scientific works "Problems of law and law enforcement" was re-registered (order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated 09.03.2016, No. 241).
According to the Order of the Ministry of justice of Ukraine dated 30.05.2017, the collection was re-registered in due to the change of name to "Donbass Law Journal". And according to the order of MES of Ukraine dated 28.12.2017, the collection of scientific works of Donetsk Law Institute is included in the List of professional editions of Ukraine.
In July of 2017, a commemorative edition of the collection was released, which on the occasion of its 20th anniversary received not only a new name, a patriotic cover, an updated Editorial Board, but also started a new stage of its development and improvement.
